An Exploration of Complex Jacobian Varieties

چکیده
In this paper, I will describe my thought process as I read in [1] about Abelian varieties in general, and the Jacobian variety associated to any compact Riemann surface in particular. I will also describe the way I currently think about the material, and any additional questions I have. I will not include material I personally knew before the beginning of the summer, which included the basics of algebraic and differential topology, real analysis, one complex variable, and some elementary material about complex algebraic

Number of points on abelian and Jacobian varieties over finite fields
We give upper and lower bounds for the number of points on abelian varieties over finite fields, and lower bounds specific to Jacobian varieties. We also determine exact formulas for the maximum and minimum number of points on Jacobian surfaces.

In this note, we study effective Cartier divisors with totally real or totally complex supports on a projective curve over R. We give some numerical conditions for an invertible sheaf to be isomorphic or not to such a divisor. We show that these conditions are strongly related to the singularities of the curve and to topological properties of the real part of the Jacobian variety.

Chen, Xi (University of Alberta) Xiao’s Conjecture on Canonically Fibered Surfaces Abstract: In 1988, Gang Xiao proposed a list of open problems on algebraic surfaces. Many of these remain open to this day. One of the problems concerns the maximal relative genus of a canonically fibered surface. In this talk, I will talk about my proof of this conjecture. متن کاملAn Exact Method for Nc Verification of up to 5-axis Machining
The motion of a cutter tool is modeled as a surface undergoing a sweep operation along another geometric entity. A numerically controlled machining verification method is developed based on a formulation for delineating the volume generated by the motion of a cutting tool on the workpiece (stock). Varieties and subvarieties that are subsets of some Eucledian space defined by the zeros of a fini...

This the original TEX file for my article Jacobian Varieties, published as Chapter VII of Arithmetic geometry (Storrs, Conn., 1984), 167–212, Springer, New York, 1986. The table of contents has been restored, some corrections and minor improvements to the exposition have been made, and an index has been added. The numbering is unchanged.
